How Stop 2 Read Works

This is a group that is reading the Bible through in two years.

While we do have this website and a private Facebook group, the daily commentary is housed on The Mighty Network.

We’ve chosen this app for several reasons:

  • It’s free for all users
  • It’s private
  • It’s easy to use
  • It allows those who choose to not use social media a way to interact without compromising

Every day—on the Mighty Network—we will post the Bible reading and a commentary from one of us. We encourage discussion and insight from all members.

The reading begins in the book of Genesis in January of 2023 and will end in the book of Revelation in December of 2024. Every month there will be several PDFs to help you manage your journey.

Guidelines for Etiquette and Interactions

There is no single version/translation of the Bible that we recommend. The best version of the Bible is the one you will read and understand. Please do not argue about the pros and cons of different choices.

The point of this group is to encourage and empower one another in our daily discipline of reading God’s Word. We will not tolerate any political discussions or other discussions that do not pertain directly to this goal.

There are two ways to travel this path—as a sojourner or as a mountaineer.

Choose the path that makes the most sense for your current life situation. Pray about it first, and then follow the path you feel the Holy Spirit is leading you to follow. You may choose a different path each month or stick with the same path throughout the two-year process.

  • Sojourner: This traveler spends daily time in God’s word.

    Sometimes we feel badly because we can “only” do so much. We overlook the fact that God’s Word never returns void, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11 ESV). Strengthening our relationship with God is a powerful discipline that will bear fruit beyond anything we could hope or image. We also encourage all sojourners to write out the daily Bible verse and pray about what God is telling you through what you’ve written. Each year we ask every sojourner to choose two books of the Bible to write out long-hand. This discipline will open up insights into God’s word. Copying the Bible long-hand uses different paths in the brain and you’ll find you experience God’s word in a new way. We do not dictate which books you choose. We recommend you spend time in prayer and come to your decision about which books by listening to God.

  • Mountaineer: This traveler also spends daily time in God’s word.

    In addition to writing out the daily Bible verse, we encourage mountaineers to choose several verses to memorize each month. I have hidden your word in my heart  that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11 NIV). We ask the mountaineers to choose three books of the Bible to write out long-hand. Again, this discipline will open up insights into God’s word. Copying the Bible long-hand uses different paths in the brain and you’ll find you experience God’s word in a new way. We do not dictate which books you choose. We recommend you spend time in prayer and come to your decision about which books by listening to God.
